Mr. Wyllis “Roni” Moore passed away at his residence in Concord, NC on Friday, October 21. He was 75. Mr. Moore was born on January 23, 1941 in Christ Church, Barbados to the late Winston Moore and Laticia Ward Moore. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marva Branford Moore.
Mr. Moore moved to the United States as a young adult. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1966-1972. Mr. Moore earned a bachelor’s of science and a master’s of science degree in business administration, both from Long Island University. He worked for over two decades as an accountant for the New York City Transit Authority.
Mr. Moore retired in 2002 and moved from Brooklyn, New York to Concord, NC in 2004. He loved his homeland of Barbados dearly, and built a home in his hometown of Christ Church, splitting his retirement years between Barbados and North Carolina. He loved spending time visiting family and friends in Barbados. The beach, water, fishing, and boating were near to his heart and he had a passion for the outdoors.
In his retired years spent at his beloved Barbados, Mr. Moore enjoyed daily walks and runs on the beach near his home. When in the states, he committed himself to fitness, working out daily at home or at the gym. He shared his passion for exercise and nutrition with all who would listen. He sent subscription to various health newsletters to his family members. He was generous with sharing his knowledge on various topics and loved to chat.
Mr. Moore also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, keeping up with the stock market and with current healthcare trends.
Mr. Moore met the love of his life Marva in 1973. She was studying to be a dental hygienist and needed volunteers to get their teeth cleaned. He was more than happy to volunteer for her practicum. They soon started dating and married in August of 1974 in Brooklyn, holding the reception at the home of Marva’s parents. Through their twenty three years of marriage, they lived next door to his wife’s parents, Uldrick and the late Edris Branford. Mr. Moore remained very close to his in laws throughout his life.
Mr. Moore is survived by his son, Andrew Moore and wife Nicole Moore; daughter Suzanne Cowan and her husband Kirk Cowan ; grandchildren, Zoe Cowan, Kai Cowan, and Claire Moore; brothers, Reuben Moore, Eucline Moore and Mitchell Moore; sisters, Sheila Brathwaite, Eudene Pinder, Cecilia Joshua, Idalia Moore and Brendhilda Moore ; sister-in-laws, Diane Gaskin and Veronica Moore; bothers-in-laws, Kester Branford, Kelwyn Branford, Cleveland Pinder and Robert Joshua. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, October 29, at Wilkinson Funeral Home 100 Branchview Dr. NE Concord 28025 officiated by Rev. Doughty.
