William David McKee passed away peacefully on Sunday April 23, 2017.
A funeral service will be 2 pm Saturday at Kerr Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, 6-7 pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
David was born on 27 January 1928 in Gastonia to the late Howard Miller McKee and Lena Elizabeth Bell McKee. He was married and devoted for 56 years to the love of his life, the late Louise Lewis McKee. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Howard M McKee, Jr (Helen) and sister, Mildred M Siderman (Henry).
David graduated from Concord High Class of 1948. He proudly served in the US Army from 1950-1952 in the Korean Conflict as SFC machine gunner, Company F of the 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Division, fighting in battles of Pork Chop Hill and Old Baldy.
David married Louise in 1953. He worked for Cannon Mills Plant 6 as supply supervisor for over 45 years, also holding a part-time position at S & D Coffee for 36 years.
As a devoted member of Kerr Memorial Baptist Church, he served as teacher, usher, and member of the BOSS Sunday School Class. He was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed fishing and making and flying kites with his grandchildren.
Surviving are daughters, Wanda M Jordan and husband, David of Burlington NC, Beth M Swalm and husband Steve of Cypress TX; grandchildren, Megan J Kirkley (Ben), of Denver CO, Katie Jordan of Raleigh, Rebecca Jordan of Washington DC, Taryn S Morrill (Matt) of Beaufort SC, Alysha Swalm of Valdosta GA, and Matthew Swalm of Cypress.
Two sister-in-laws also survive-Ella McKee, Concord and Frances Buatte (Larry), Manhattan KS.
David lived a life of integrity, faith, hard work, devotion to wife and family, courage, and humility.
