Mr. William “Bill” Cruser Caldwell of Eastwood Drive passed away March 29, 2016 at his home.
His funeral will be 2 PM Friday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Wes Judy. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 12:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Bill was born July 26, 1923 in Charlotte to the late McKamey Denson Caldwell and Elva Litaker Caldwell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Smith Caldwell, son, David Caldwell, sisters, Mary Ivey and Margaret Caldwell, and brother, Mack Caldwell, Jr. Bill retired from the City of Concord where he was superintendent of the Hillgrove Water Plant. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, flying with the “Flying Tigers” in Burma. Bill was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and enjoyed his model trains.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth C. Welch, and Alice Caldwell , both of Concord; daughter-in-law, Laneece Ramsey of Black Mountain; grandchildren, Matthew Barbee and wife Amanda, Lauren Welch, Anna Welch, and Candice Day and husband Shayne; great grandchildren, Nicolette and Tallulah; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank nurses Amanda and Tanya with Community Hospice and Home Care, Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, and to Kem Smith, Debbie Ammons, and Mary Beth DeVos.
