William Boger Long, Jr. 86, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 19, 2020, the day after he celebrated his 86th birthday.
Boger was born in Concord on February 18, 1934 to the late William Sr. and Margie Crouch Long. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Long. Boger graduated from Concord High School and went on to attend Lenoir-Rhyne College. He then enjoyed a long career in banking before retiring from Citizens Savings and Loan to enjoy life on Lake Norman.
All who knew Boger would tell you his generosity was unparalleled. He loved his family and friends dearly and enjoyed time spent on the water, meals with his community of neighbors, and visits to be with family. Boger was a man of great faith, and an avid reader. He enjoyed watching the Washington Redskins and Carolina Panthers football. He was also a big fan of UNC basketball. Sipping coffee or enjoying happy hour on his screened porch with family and friends was one of his happiest places to be - and those who loved him enjoyed that time spent just as much.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Daphne Long Rankin and Richard Rankin; son, Chuck Long; sister, Nancy Griffin; grandchildren Ashlyn Anderson (Ben), Brandon Howell (Kelly), Will Long (Kaci); six adoring great-grandchildren; 3 nephews and a niece; and his family of friends: the Hairfields, the Carters, the Holmes, the Kirschs, the McLesters, the Scheltzs, the Smiths, and the Tempels.
Family will receive visitors at Wilkinson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 29 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
Memorials may be made to Carolina Waterfowl Rescue at www.cwrescue.org or 5403 Poplin Road, Indian Trail, NC 28079.
