Mr. Willard Junior Newsome, age 78, of Concord, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, surrounded by many family and friends who will miss him for the rest of their days.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 24 at Wilkinson Funeral Home from 12 to 2 pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel at 2 pm with Rev. Marvin Goodnight officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at West Concord Cemetery.
Mr. Newsome was born September 16, 1945 on a warm, sunny day at home in Concord. He was the son of the late Willard Washington Newsome and Annie Catherine Little Newsome. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Stancil, Mary Newsome, and Shirley McCoy.
Willard or “Junior” was a consistent pillar of strength for his family and those who were fortunate to know him. His witty humor, love of his dog “baby girl”, and all things to do with a gathering of family with homemade food and laughs cannot be topped. He had a heart and passion for helping people with disabilities and special needs. Willard proudly served our country in the United States Army for 4 years. He worked for the Concord Tribune as the Circulation Manager for over 15 years and retired his career as manager of the Colonial Inn, a local tourist motel, in Concord, North Carolina.
He is survived by his son, Watty Newsome and wife, Angela; two beloved grandsons, Chadwyck Newsome and wife, Tiffany, and Braxton Newsome and companion, Kaylie Kane; and great grand-daughter, Palmer Kay Newsome; his sisters, Margie Easley and Billie Cook. Junior has many nieces, nephews and friends from all over the United States who will miss him dearly.
