Tony R. Mosley

June 26, 1942 — January 22, 2025

Concord

Mr. Tony R. Mosley, 82, of Concord, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Exactly two years prior, he had moved his beloved wife of 59 years Norma Litaker Mosley to Tucker Hospice House.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at St. James Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Bill Ridenhour. The family will receive friends following the service in the King Fellowship Hall.

Tony was born on June 26, 1942 in Concord to the late Lala Aileen Moore Mosley and Willie Pressley Mosley.

He attended Long Grammar School, then graduated from Concord High School in 1961. Following high school, Tony took courses in Charlotte to become an electrician, apprenticing with his uncle, and later working for Industrial Electric Company.

After working as an electrician in Charlotte, Tony transferred to Southern Bell (later BellSouth). He retired from AT&T as a Senior Network Installer. As a side business, Tony taught himself taxidermy, and enjoyed doing this hands-on work for family, friends, and acquaintances for many years. Following his retirement, Tony continued to work around Cabarrus County, as an independent contractor and in the Forest Hill United Methodist Church Columbarium.

Gifted with many talents and the understanding of how things worked, Tony could make and repair seemingly anything. For many years, he enjoyed detailed wood carving, creating duck decoys and various birds he shared as gifts. He enjoyed painting, photography, and working with his hands. His photography and taxidermy work won awards at several conventions.

As a youth, Tony was a member of Kerr Street United Methodist Church. Upon his marriage to Norma, Tony joined St. James Lutheran Church, where he faithfully attended and served for the remainder of his life. He enjoyed serving as a chaperone for the Luther League beach trips, being a part of the congregational retreats to Lutheridge, and serving on the property committee; he also helped with repairs around the church whenever needed. He loved regularly attending the Wednesday Together meals, and being a part of the Lively Leisures. Tony served alongside Norma on the first Young Life Committee in Cabarrus County.

From childhood on, Tony was an avid outdoorsman. He deeply loved being outside in God's creation and exploring as many peaceful places as he could. He began fishing and hunting as a boy, but discovered his true passion when he started archery. Tony was gifted with accurate marksmanship, and won awards in his archery club. These early experiences eventually led him to take hunting and fishing trips all over the United States, Canada, and later to Africa and Siberia. He adored his hunting trips to Kansas so much that he bought a small farm and spent time with family and friends there for over a decade.

Tony shared his wanderlust with his family, and planned trips that allowed his children to see most of the lower 48 states. He loved spending time with friends, family, and most especially his grandchildren at North Myrtle Beach.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife Norma and his parents. Shortly following his death, his brother-in-law Buddy Watts passed away, as well. He is survived by his sister Janice Watts of Mount Pleasant; son, Todd Daniel Mosley and wife, Donna of Concord; daughter, Elizabeth Mosley Horner and husband, Jeff of Keller, TX; grandchildren, Madison Jeffery of Albemarle, Delaney Bowlin of Lenoir, Michael, Brian, and Layla Grace Horner, all of Keller, TX; great-grandchildren, Natalee, Abigale, Phoenix, and Randolph Jeffery of Albemarle.

Tony loved his family and friends, and enjoyed spending time with all of them. He greatly enjoyed his weekly meals at Wayside, Troutman's, and Mr. C's in his final years. The family wishes to thank Tony's "village" who supported, listened to, and cared for him during his widowerhood, as well as the staff at Cabarrus Family Medicine in Kannapolis.

Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church, 104 Union Street S., Concord, NC 28025.
