Mr. Tony Houston Blackwelder, 64, of Concord, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. His peaceful transition marks the end of a life marked by service, love, and cherished memories.
A graveside service to honor Tony's life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at VA National Cemetery-Salisbury, with full military honors. The service will be officiated by Rev. Rodney Quesenberry. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
Tony was born on May 30, 1959, in Maryland, to the late Mary Sadie Mills Blackwelder and Ernest Houston Blackwelder. His legacy is one of service, as he was a proud Veteran of The U.S. Army, serving his country with honor and pride. He also contributed his talents and dedication to the auto/upholstery manufacturing sector, where he worked as a supervisor for many years.
Tony's spirit was alive with a zest for life and a passion for the things he loved. He enjoyed the freedom of travel, especially to the mountains, and found solace in the art of deer hunting. Tony had a heart for romance, capturing the hearts of those he encountered with his charm and kindness. His love for dancing was a reflection of his joyful and spirited nature.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Peggy Green Blackwelder, of Concord; his son, Asa Houston Blackwelder, and his wife, Mary of Landis; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Turkdamar; his brother, Dennis Casper; and his grandchildren, Carley Joanna Blackwelder, Leyla Turkdamar, Emir Turkdamar, and Safiya Turkdamar.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wilkinson Funeral Home at PO Box 344, Concord, NC 28026, or to the Wounded Warrior Project at 1990 Fordham Drive, Suite 100, Fayetteville, NC 28304. These contributions will honor Tony's memory and support causes close to his heart.
