Mrs. Sylvia Dawn Blackwelder Morgan, 84, of Concord, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Atrium Health-Stanly, surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Kerr Memorial Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Randy Clipp and Rev. Jim Summey. The family will greet friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm prior to the service.
The family will be at the house of Arlen and Teresa Morgan.
Sylvia was born on April 21, 1940, in Concord, NC, to the late Violet Deboe Blackwelder and Y.W. Blackwelder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Arlen Morgan.
For 36 years, Sylvia was the devoted secretary at Kerr Memorial Baptist Church, serving through the tenures of eight different pastors. She was known for her inquisitive nature, always eager to learn about others. Sylvia had a signature style, often stepping out in her clear high-heel shoes and always dressed impeccably. Her sharp eye for grammar made her a frequent corrector of language mishaps, and she had a passion for shopping. While her grandchildren were the light of her life, her love for Elvis came in a close second.
She is survived by her sons, Arlen Morgan and wife, Teresa, of Concord, Matthew Morgan and wife, Jenifer, of Kannapolis; sister, Betty Surratt; and brother, Bob Blackwelder and wife, Jo. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Tabitha Furr and husband, Jeremy, Josh Morgan and wife, Katie, Brett Morgan-Claudio and husband, Alex; and great-grandchildren, Coen Furr, Kai Claudio, Sadie Furr, AJ Morgan, Wally Morgan, Joey Morgan, Penelope Claudio, and Mackenzie Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kerr Memorial Baptist Church, 25 Hwy 49 S, Concord, NC 28025.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ICU staff of Atrium Health-Stanly for their compassionate care and love shown to Sylvia in her final days.
Sylvia will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory and love will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
