Mr. Steve Franklin Purser of Concord, NC died on March 14, 2024 in Banner Elk, NC.
He was 71 years old and lived a good life. He served in the US Army, and afterward worked for the United States Post office for many years. Following retirement, he started a second career in construction, leading building crews, which was an important part of his life. He was a generous man and always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, giving attention to everyone who needed it. He never seemed to meet a stranger and helped anyone he could.
Steve was born on October 26, 1952 to Frank and Edna Mullis Purser of Charlotte, graduating from Independence High School and attending Central Piedmont Community College and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He was always active in sports, lettering in three in high school.
He is survived by his wife, Aubie Widenhouse Cook; daughter, Stacy Lopez and husband, Victor; stepdaughters, Elizabeth, Amanda, and Laura; grandchildren, Victor, Lucas, Jeffrey; great-granddaughter, Harmony; sister, Donna Van Sant and husband, Robert, and their daughter, Robin.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Wilkinson Funeral Home chapel, officiated by Rev. Tom Latimer, with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 pm prior to the service.
