Shirley May Peters Bonds of Concord, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024 at Atrium Health Cabarrus at the age of 96.
There will be a graveside service for Shirley at Carolina Memorial Park on Sunday, April 28th at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Scott Simpson officiating. The family will speak to friends following the graveside service.

Shirley was born December 28, 1927 to the late Arthur William and Mary Peters of Andover, England. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Archie; her brothers, Mac, Bill, Fred, Douglas, and Arthur; her sister, Lillian and her daughter-in-law, Marcia.
Shirley was married to Archie Patterson Bonds on April 6, 1946 in England and came to the United States in October 1946. Shirley and Archie met while he was recuperating at Camp Barton in Andover from war wounds received in Germany in March 1945. They were married for 59 years until Archie’s death on May 31, 2005.
Shirley retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery (formerly Hugh Grey Hosiery) in 1985 after 36 years and later worked at Pacer’s Shirt Company. On June 19, 2000, Shirley became a US Citizen at the age of 72, after living in the US for 54 years. She was a former member of Bayless Presbyterian Church and Cornerstone Presbyterian Church and a current member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She loved gardening with her flowers, loved to cook, and especially enjoyed making fried apple pies and oatmeal cookie sandwiches for family and friends. She loved her dogs, Mitzi, Oscar Rolf and Mort throughout the years.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Bobby (Susie) Bonds, and Larry (Madeline) Bonds of Concord, and Terry Bonds of Belmont; her grandson, Bryan Bonds of Gastonia; and her sister-in-law, Peggy Bonds of Kannapolis. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews in England, Australia, Greece, and South Africa, as well as in the Concord/Kannapolis area; and her close friends, Doris Poston, Irene Russell and Jane Moose.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Andrews Assisted Living for their compassionate care during the past three years.
