Mrs. Sherry Moffitt Goodnight, 83, of Concord, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Sherrills Ford Hospice House. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by her grandson, Rev. Dr. Kevin M. Gandy. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
Sherry was born on February 15, 1941, in High Point, NC, to the late Curtis Matthew Moffitt and Myrtle Flossie Moffitt. She attended Jamestown High School, and later met her late husband, Jim D. Newell. They moved to Pineville before settling in Concord, where they raised four daughters together. After Jim died suddenly in 1983, Sherry worked as a bank teller and supervisor. It was during this time that she caught the eye of her future husband, Joseph A. Goodnight. They married in May 1987 and have spent 37 wonderful years together.
Sherry knew and loved the Lord and found great joy in her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She especially cherished spending time with her grandchildren-Kevin, Eric, and Noah-who spent nearly every weekend with her. She was a long-time member of Parkwood Baptist Church, where she served as Assistant Organist, sang in the choir, and loved being a part of her Sunday School class for many years. Sherry enjoyed cooking for her family (especially her famous grits and homemade biscuits!), crocheting, taking trips to the beach, and, in her later years, found joy in coloring and stickers.
Sherry is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Goodnight; daughter Angela Dudney and husband Bobby; grandchildren Kevin Matthew Gandy, Eric Tyler Gandy, and Noah Linn Shealy and wife Megan; two great-grandchildren; daughters Tina Irby and husband Chip, and Kelly Carns and husband Jeff; as well as other extended family members. Sherry will be profoundly missed, and her unwavering faith and dedication to her family, friends, and church will be cherished forever.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Parkwood Baptist Church, 1069 Central Dr NW, Concord, NC 28027 or your local church. The family will be gathered at Angela Dudney's home.
