Sherlon Dorton

CONCORD- Sherlon Thomas Dorton. 82, passed away at Atrium Cabarrus on May 17, 2022.

Funeral services will be 3pm Sunday, May 22, at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Langford and Rev. Mark King officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 1:30pm in the church parlor. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Sherlon was born in Cabarrus County on June 7, 1939 to James B. and Helen Williams Thomas. She was born and raised in Concord. Following graduation from Concord High School in 1957 she was hired at Southern Bell where she enjoyed a 32 career with the company. She remained an active participant of the “Pioneer Club” with the company. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being involved in local social groups and loved going to dances at the Cabarrus Senior Center. Her husband, Ira E. “Buddy” Dorton preceded her in death in 2003.

Mrs. Dorton is survived by her daughter, Sheree Dorton Walker (David) of Concord; sisters, Beverly T. Blasier (Michael) of Concord and Pamela T. Taylor (Randy) of Duluth Georgia; grandchildren, Maegan Walker Parnell (Bobby) and Haley Walker Layton (Tyler); and great grandchildren, Ava and Caroline Parnell and Walker and Emersyn Layton.
