Sean Michael McLaughlin of Concord, NC, passed away suddenly June 23 at CMC Northeast. Sean was born on May 12, 1977 in Burlington, VT to Michele McLaughlin and Mark Young.
Sean moved to Concord, NC with his mother in 1983 and attended Cabarrus County Schools, graduating from Mt. Pleasant MPHS in 1996. While in high school Sean played for the soccer team at MPHS and regularly refereed for the JV soccer team.
Sean was a proud Boy Scout who earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1995 from Epworth United Methodist Church. This was an honor Sean deeply cherished and he was very proud of his dedication and hard work to become part of such a select group of scouts.
Sean was appointed and served as an ambassador to the US and t raveled to Australia in 1996 bringing his ideas, enthusiasm, and dynamic personality to share with other teen ambassadors travelling the world.
Sean attended college at East Carolina University graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Business and Marketing in December 2007.
Sean enjoyed fishing from the age of two and became an avid fisherman throughout his life. He always found his greatest peace, tranquility, and clarity wherever he could cast his fishing pole. He was looking forward to an upcoming fishing trip with his father, sister, and grandfather.
Sean leaves behind his parents, Michele Connelly and Terry Connelly, of Chesterfield, VA; a sister, Ms. Valerie Freeman, and her children, Stella and Finn Freeman of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Ms. Nicole Connelly and fiancé, Mr. Nate M organ, of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Mr. Christopher Connelly, of Arizona, and his children, Sophia and Logan Connelly; his maternal grandmother, Ms. Nancy McLaughlin of Concord; maternal grandfather, Mr. William Jon McLaughlin and wife, Judy McLaughlin, of Sebastian, FL; maternal aunt, Ms. Renee McLaughlin and her son, Mr. John Tu'uta, of Concord, NC; maternal uncle, Mr. Steve McLaughlin and wife, Laura McLaughlin, of Ingleside, TX; and several maternal great aunts, uncles, and cousins around the country. Sean also leaves behind his best friend in life, Mr. Chris Crutchfield, of CO.
Services for the family will be provided by Wilkinson Funeral Home in Concord, NC.
There will be a viewing Tuesday, June 26, 2018, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with a service following at 7:30 p.m. at Wilkinson Funeral Home 100 Branchview Drive NE Concord, NC 28025
