Ruth Mary Condra

December 27, 1929 — November 27, 2017

Ruth M. Condra passed from this life into eternity with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on November 27, 2017. Born on December 27, 1929 in Paterson NJ, Ruth was the daughter of the late Henry DeGraff, Sr. and Mary DeGraff. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Condra and her brother Henry DeGraff, Jr.

Ruth attended Mary Baldwin College (VA) and met the love of her life, John R. Condra of Huntsville Alabama. While Ruth continued her education at UNC Chapel Hill and John attended NC State Raleigh, they decided to secretly elope and start their life together. Ruth's dedication to her husband was so complete that she decided to forego her college degree in order to get her favorite title - Mrs. John R. Condra. Ruth followed John to Alabama so he could work in the family business and complete his degree at the University of Alabama.

Ruth's pride and joy were her daughters and - as a mother and homemaker-she raised them with much love, firm discipline, a strong work ethic, and Christian faith and values. She taught them the importance of family and caring for each other as though it was the most important goal in their life. Ruth was an avid gardener, a happy traveler, a wonderful cook/hostess, an intense Alabama fan, and was entirely patriotic. Most important in her life was her love and commitment to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. She served as a quiet witness of her faith to everyone she met and dearly loved her Bible study friends and her church family at Emmanuel.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Susan Mcferrin (Mac) of Concord NC, Mary Miller (Marty) of Cary NC and her dear nephews and their families. Ruth is also survived by her lifelong girlfriend Wilma Obaugh of McDowell VA. Their love of reminiscing, giggling, marathon shopping trips and watching old movies together is certainly renowned to their families.

The family would like to thank Mom's med techs, caregivers, and the entire staff of The Laurels at Highland Creek in Charlotte NC who shared hugs/kisses and made her life easier as her health declined. Our heartfelt thanks go to Tiffany Laushe for her special form of friendship and TLC.

The family requests memorials to be sent to Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1006 Wilson Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
