Mr. Roy Lee Ellington passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Brian Center.
Funeral services are planned for 2 PM Tuesday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Mark McClamrock and Rev. Dale Jenkins. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors. The procession to the cemetery will be escorted by the Patriot Guard. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Roy was born September 12, 1933 in Concord to the late Aurelius Lemuel Ellington and Addie Wilson Ellington. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Rothia Blackwelder Ellington. Roy was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
After high school, Roy enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served twenty years retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He went on to work for and retired again from the U.S. Postal Service. Roy loved his Lord and Savior! He was a lifelong Presbyterian, and served as Elder Emeritus at Concord Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. He was known for his ability to fix most anything mechanical and tending to his rose bushes. But Roy’s proudest accomplishments were his family. He dearly loved each one of them and nothing made him happier than loving and caring for them.
Roy is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Shirley Campbell Ellington; sons, David (Vickie) Ellington, and Daniel (Angie) Ellington; daughter, Wanda (Tony) Laursen; grandchildren, Adam (Chelsea) Ellington, Mark (Caitlin) Ellington, Leah (Daniel) Wilson, Amber (Brandon) Byrd, Luke (Emma) Ellington, Paige (Austin) Hamb, Allyson (Lucas) Hill, Blake Biggers, and Angel (Duane) Barnes; eleven great grandchildren with two on the way; twin brother, Troy Ellington; and a number of extended family members.
