Robert "Bob" Tracey Moon, 77, of Matthews, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Father Dau. Graveside services with military honors by the U.S. Air Force Honor Team will follow at 2:00 pm at Salisbury National Cemetery. Bob will lie in state from 10:00 am to 11:45 am on the morning of the service.
Born on March 13, 1947, in Providence, RI, to the late Virginia Tracey Moon and Robert Arnold Moon, Bob was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran who honorably served in Vietnam. He later built a long career as a Quality Control Analyst at Duke Power and subsequently applied his military training to his role at Allied-Barton Security.
Bob was passionate about military history, especially aviation. His remarkable knowledge of aircraft, particularly military models across various eras, inspired him to become an ultralight pilot. Alongside his love of flying, Bob was a devoted NASCAR enthusiast, finding joy in living in Charlotte, a city rich with racing culture. He was the oldest of six and a devoted brother who cherished his family, always supporting his siblings and sharing a special bond with his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his siblings, Deborah Daniel of Salisbury, NC; Richard Moon and wife, Lynn, of Huntersville, NC; Tracey Towe and husband, Don, of Seneca, SC; Gennifer Quigg and husband, Gary, of Kannapolis, NC; and Ryan Moon and wife, Deborah, of Cary, NC; along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516, or to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401.
