Robert Carol Furr, age 95 passed away July 22, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House.
Carol was born July 26, 1921 in Charlotte, NC to Beecham Zerobie and Carrie Black Furr.
He graduated from Central High School in Charlotte and received a certificate in textiles from NC State. He served in the army field artillery during World War II.
Carol was recognized as a lawn and garden expert and was owner and operator of Furr’s Seed and Garden Center in Charlotte until he retired in 1982. His was the first garden center to bring tulip bulbs to the Charlotte area from Holland and the drive through Freedom Park, which were lined with big beautiful trees, were planted by Mr. Furr and company. The stories and memories of his handiwork will live forever in our hearts and minds. He was a good Christian man.
Carol is survived by his loving wife, Martha, with whom he has shared 75 remarkable years together; two sons and a daughter; RC Furr, Jr and wife, Karen, Richard Furr and wife, Sandy, all of Greensboro, and Jeanne Murdock and husband, Steve of Concord. He also has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank Hospice for all their love and care.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
