Mr Robert “Bob” Bogle passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
A memorial service for Bob will be 2pm Friday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Carol Carkin. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30pm at the funeral home.
Bob was born at home August 20, 1927 in Concord to the late William Stover Bogle and Myrtle Eunice Taylor Bogle. He was also preceded in death by wife, Mary Kay Patterson Bogle, and sister, Camilla Bogle Mullinax. Bob attended Duke University and Lenoir-Rhyne College before serving in the 185th Combat Engineers, US Army (1951-1952) during the Korean Conflict. Stationed above the 38th Parallel for 2 winters. Upon his return, he went into the insurance business, Bogle Insurance Agency, in downtown Concord.
Very active and life-long member of Central United Methodist Church. Was Treasurer and Song Leader of the Lester Coltane Bible Class, usher for 40 years, as well as various church committees.
During the mid-1960s Bob was Chairman of the Cabarrus County Republican Party, and he continued to be active in the GOP into the 1970s. He enjoyed being outdoors and using his chainsaw. In 1993 he became full-time caregiver to his wife, Mary Kay, for 8 years. Bob was always upbeat with a positive outlook on life. “Famous” for his gravy, he cooked Sunday lunch for his family until age 91.
Bob is survived by daughter, Margaret Bogle Smith and husband Victor of Winston Salem; son, William P. Bogle, Sr of Concord; grandchildren, William “Will” P. Bogle, Jr. and wife Monique of Kannapolis; Elizabeth B. Crawford and husband Doug of Midland; and two great grandchildren Rose and Jack; brother-in-law, Alex Patterson of Concord; and sister-in-law, Betsy Patterson Nelson of San Antonio, TX.
