Rita Griggs Haynes

Mrs. Rita Griggs Haynes passed away peacefully on the evening of October 24, 2024, with her family by her side.

Rita Jeanette Griggs was born on August 14, 1962, at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in Concord, North Carolina, to the late John Baxter and Edith Cochran Griggs. She was raised as the youngest of their three daughters in Charlotte, where she graduated from West Charlotte High School (Class of 1980) and later became a medical secretary. She took great pride in her work and spoke fondly of those years.

In 1988, she married Mark Haynes, and they welcomed their first daughter, Katharyn, in 1990, followed by their second daughter, Abbey, in 1995. Her focus became her beloved girls, whom she adored. She and Mark brought them up in Concord and enjoyed a beautiful life together there. Rita cherished family gatherings, whether for birthdays, holidays, or any other occasion that allowed her to spend time with loved ones. She never met a stranger, becoming fast friends with everyone she met, always greeting them with her warm smile and joyful spirit.

Rita is survived by her husband, Mark, and her daughter, Katharyn Haynes; her sister, Beverly (Alvin) Doughty; her nephews, Jonathan and Joshua (Morgan) Doughty; and her great-nephew, Wesley Doughty. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Abbey Haynes, and her sister, Cindy Griggs.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn her passing, but we take comfort in knowing she is now in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father, reunited with her family in glory. She will always be greatly loved and forever missed.

In honor of her final wishes, her family invites all who are able, to celebrate her life at Wil-Mar Park Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:45 pm, with a funeral service following at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. David Wilson. She will be laid to rest after the service at Roberta Methodist Church Cemetery in Concord.
