Mr. Riley Grier Honeycutt passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Five Oaks Manor.
His memorial service will be 4 PM Sunday at Roberta United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Jim Church and Rev. Fred Jordan. The family will receive friends following the service in the Welcome Center.
Riley was born September 26, 1934 in Charlotte to the late Charlie Grier Honeycutt and Fannie Lambert Honeycutt. He was also preceded in death by sister Edith and brothers Howard, Ray, and Marvin Honeycutt. Riley graduated from Harrisburg High School and attended Central Piedmont Community College and the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa where he studied architecture and Biblical history. He later worked in architectural drafting and design for Ervin Construction Co., A.G. Odell Co., John Crosland Co., and Beezer Homes, all in Charlotte. Riley was a sixty year member of Roberta UMC where he taught the Young Adult Sunday School Class for forty years, sang in the choir, and at one time held every major church office. He was also a certified Lay speaker and a delegate for the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Riley was an Eagle Boy Scout and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Riley is survived by his wife, whom he married June 8, 1957, Juanita Barbee Honeycutt; sons, Gregory Honeycutt and wife Wendy of Locust, and Thomas Honeycutt of Albemarle; grandsons, Taylor and John Honeycutt; sisters, Jane H. Voncannon and Frances H. Gray; and a number of nieces and nephews.
