CONCORD- Ray B. Wilkerson, 82 passed away at his home on September 22, 2016.
Funeral services will be 3 pm Monday at Westford United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Rushing officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday 6 to 8pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
Ray was born in Cabarrus County on April 8 1934. He was one of three children born to Martin Luther and Beulah Mae Starnes Wilkerson. He served in the US Navy where he fought in the Korean War. He began his law enforcement career working with the Cabarrus County Sherriff’s Department and Concord City Police. This led to his working with the NC Department of Corrections/Division of Prisons. He was a Mason for over 50 years. He was a member of Stokes Lodge #32, Cabarrus County Retired Law Enforcement Association, State Employees Association of NC, Retired Governmental Association, and the NC Retired Peace Officers Association. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marty Wilkerson and a sister, Iris W. Hine.
Mr. Wilkerson is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bobbie S. Wilkerson; daughters, Lynn Wilkerson, Eve W. Zigler and husband Ron, Barbara R. Wilkerson, and Anna Leigh Wilkerson, all of Concord; son, Patrick Wilkerson and wife Dari of Concord; and grandchildren, Camry and Colby Wagner and Brandy Blackwell.
