Mr. Ray “Weldon” Threadgill Sr., age 92 of Concord passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 31st at Wilkinson Funeral Home from 12:30 pm to 2 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2 pm with Rev. Matthew Tucker officiating. The burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
Mr. Threadgill was born on October 18, 1932 in Chesterfield County, SC, one of 11 children born to Albert Porter Threadgill, Sr. and Ina Bullard Threadgill. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Maxie, Charles, Earl, J W, Jack and Jimmy, sister, Shirley Haywood, and sons-in-law, Danny Taylor and Butch Helms.
Weldon retired from the City of Concord working in the Building and Grounds Department and was dubbed the nickname “Slick” by his coworkers. He was a long-time member of Gordon Heights Baptist Church where he served as deacon and helped in other areas of the church. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and reading. Slick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 71 years, Margaret Lee Threadgill; daughters, Dianne Taylor and Donna Helms; sons, Ray, Jr. and wife, Rhonda, Michael and wife, Dianna, and Wayne and wife, Pam; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Albert Threadgill, Jr.; sisters, Mildred Barbee and Ruth Goins; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
