Ray Calloway

October 24, 1929 — January 10, 2021

Mr. Ray Melvin Calloway, of Davidson Highway, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021 at his home.

A graveside service for Ray will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery officiated by Rev. Tim Newton and speaker Vickie Wyant Carpenter. There will no longer be a public visitation due to illness in the family.

Ray was born October 24, 1929 in Concord to the late Homer James Calloway and Ollie Goodman Calloway Beaver. He was also preceded in death by wife of 59 years Betty Barbee Calloway, daughter Donna C. Lentz, sister Margie C. Jones, and brother J.D. Calloway. Known to so many as “Paw” or “Uncle Ray”, he retired in 1991 from Estes Express Lines in Charlotte after 30 plus years. Ray then became a full time “mini” farmer and a full time “grand pa”.

Ray is survived by daughters Barbara Weddington and Judy Rae Calloway of Jefferson, NC; sons Bo Calloway and wife Pamela of Concord, and Joe Calloway and wife Lanas of China Grove; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; a number of nieces and nephews; and many, many special friends.
