Mrs. Rachel Ellington Fullem, formerly of Gibson Drive, entered Heaven with open arms into the waiting embrace of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Tucker Hospice House.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Charity Baptist Church, 2420 Brantley Road in Kannapolis, NC, officiated by Dr. Marty Payton. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm prior to the service at the church. The inurnment will be private.
Rachel was born March 7, 1922 in Concord to the late A.L. Ellington and Addie Wilson Ellington. She was also preceded in death by her husband Howard “Bubba” Fullem, brothers Clifford, Everett, Carl and Arnold Ellington and sister Pat Swaringen. Rachel worked in the hosiery industry at both Hugh Gray Hosiery and Kaiser Roth Hosiery. She was an avid golfer, making a hole in one well into her 80’s. Rachel was a treasured wife, mother, and grandmother. For many years she taught Sunday School to numerous children and was a joy and blessing to all who knew her. She spent the last 3 years as a resident of Morningside Elder Care Facility where she lit up any room she entered with her smile.
Rachel is survived by children, Rebecca F. Poplin (Craig), Fay F. Waddell (Reggie), and Darrell F. Fullem (Pam); grandsons, Andy Poplin, Brent and Alex Kilgore; great grandson, Eli Kilgore; brothers, Roy and Troy Ellington; and a host of extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Charity Baptist Church Food Ministry.
