Phillip Gray

April 8, 1956 — February 8, 2025

Phillip Russell Gray, 68, of Concord lost his battle with cancer on February 8, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and bonus dad. Phillip fiercely loved his family, his friends, his faithful fur babies, his Harley, and a good cigar, not necessarily in that order. Not many things put a smile on his face like a ride on his Harley or a hard-fought game of dominoes with special friends.

Phillip was born and raised in Concord, NC, except for a brief time in Fairfield, PA. He graduated from Fairfield Area High School but always considered himself a Concord High School Spider at heart. He was blessed to be able to attend 50-year reunions with classmates from both schools last Fall. Phillip was a veteran of the U.S. Army and an accomplished Carpenter and home remodeler.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Gray; mother, Kay Love Newton; bonus dad, Wylie H. Newton; and sister, Donna Newton.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Donna Tarlton Gray; daughters, Elizabeth Gray and Amanda Hagee; son, Jeremy Hagee; brother, Bruce Gray; sister, Kelly Newton McLain; grandchildren, Logan Gray, Liam Gray, Meridian Harper, and Revel Harper; aunts, Betsy Love, Sandra Kirkland, and Delette Bost; and fur babies "Mo" and "Flower".

We are grateful to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Salisbury VA Medical Center for their valiant efforts to give Phillip a different outcome. We are also grateful for the care and concern that we received from VIA Health Partners, who provided excellent hospice care.

In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in Phillip's memory or donating to the cancer research charity of your choice.

In fulfillment of Phillip's wishes, there will be a cookout at his residence to celebrate his life; date to be determined.
