Philip Lance Van Every Foil

November 11, 1968 — July 2, 2018

Philip Lance Van Every Foil, a native of Concord, N.C., went home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, July 2, 2018. Born November 11, 1968, Phil is the son of Martin Boger Foil Jr., and the late Carolyn “Puddin” Van Every Foil.

Phil attended Concord High School, where he was active in marching band, French Club and theater productions. He excelled in academics and was always willing to tutor friends and classmates and assist with homework assignments. Phil was active in his community and enjoyed participating in church youth group activities and Old Courthouse Theater productions, including “A Christmas Carol”(Tiny Tim) and “Mame” (young Patrick).

In December 1984, at the age of 16, a tragic car accident would forever change the course of his life. Phil lost his ability to function independently but maintained a sharp mind and quick wit. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and playing board games. He was quick to beat anyone who challenged him to a game of Scrabble or Trouble, including his medical doctors.

Phil is survived by his father, Martin B. Foil Jr., siblings Quincy Foil White (Mike); Marty Foil (Lisa); and Mary Foil (Paul); and nieces/nephews Carolyn, HL, and Will Ruth, and Sydney and Avery Foil. He is also survived by an uncle, William H. Taylor Sr. (Kitty), numerous cousins and wonderful caregivers who took impeccable care of him throughout the years.

A memorial service honoring Phil will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 70 Union Street in Concord. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Phil touched many lives throughout his life; having set an extraordinary example of how to live life with courage, grace, dignity and stoicism. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to Hind’s Feet Farm in Huntersville, N.C. (www.hindsfeetfarm.org).
