Mr. Peter "Pete" Joseph Brezden, 82, of Concord, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Atrium Health Cabarrus, surrounded by his loving family.
A memorial service will be held in Summerville, SC at a later date.
Pete was born on December 22, 1942, in Mud Fork, WV, to the late Rosa Brezden Ferguson. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Ann Brezden.
A proud graduate of Marshall University, Pete made lifelong friendships while being a student athlete for the Thundering Herd. After earning his degree, Pete dedicated his life to education, teaching Civics and World History at Barboursville High School in West Virginia. In addition to his role in the classroom, Pete coached multiple sports, mentoring countless young men and shaping their lives both on and off the field.
Pete's love for the outdoors was unmatched. Fishing was a cornerstone of his life, and he shared his passion with anyone he could, especially young anglers. As a member of Bassmaster, Pete delighted in teaching children how to fish, leaving a legacy of enthusiasm for the sport. Golf was another cherished hobby he enjoyed throughout his life.
With a master's degree and near completion of his doctorate, Pete's pursuit of knowledge was evident in every aspect of his life. After leaving teaching, he enjoyed a successful career as a district sales manager for Nationwide Insurance, where his leadership and dedication made a lasting impact.
Pete is survived by his devoted wife of thirteen years, Susan Kester Halsey Brezden of Concord; his daughters, Rosemary Brezden of Summerville, SC, and Kelly Martin and her husband, Dan, of Concord; son, Bryan Halsey of Asheville; and beloved grandchildren, Jonathan Brezden, Eber Brezden, McKenzie Martin, and Daniel Martin II.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Concord Fire Department, 100 Warren C. Coleman Blvd., Concord, NC 28027. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Concord Fire Station #7 for their care and support of Pete.
Pete will be fondly remembered for his generosity, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and community. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
