Penny Carolyn Cooke Reid, 60, of Concord, passed away Friday, January 13, 2017 at CHS NorthEast.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Epworth UMC with Reverend Karen Kaser-Odor officiating. The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm Monday, January 16, 2017 at Wilkinson Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
Penny obtained a bachelor’s degree from UNCC after graduating from North Davidson Senior High School in Lexington.
She was a social worker for many years at Hawthorne Nursing Center, CMC NorthEast, and Advanced Home Care.
Her smile lit up every room she entered, and she was known for her ability to love and care for others. She was a wonderful conversationalist and loved to talk to others. She loved and adored her family and made sure each one knew it. She had a special bond with her nephew, Adam, who paints immaculately with acrylic. Once a month, she and seven other girls she had worked with over the years would gather for a girl’s night out, better known as “GNO”.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Lewis Cooke, Jr. and brother, Ricky Ammona Cooke. Left to cherish her memories are husband, Wayne Reid; mother, Nancy Moore Cooke; sister, Belinda Cooke Leferve (Joseph); niece, Tiffany Mitchell Leferve; nephew, Adam Daniel Leferve; 12 cousins; uncle and aunt, Ralph and Sandy Barnhardt; brother-in-law, Ben Reid (Jenni Lou); and cousins, Alex Barnhardt and LeeAnn B. Miller (Jon).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Levine Cancer Institute-Concord 100 Medical Park Drive, Suite 110, Concord, NC 28025.
