Paul Eugene Christy

August 12, 1931 — January 4, 2017

Mr. Paul E. “Fred” Christy, age 85 passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House.

A graveside service with military honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Bill Gerhardt officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery following the service.

Mr. Christy was born August 12, 1931 in Rowan County, a son of the late Henry Lewis Christy and Thelma Annie Proffitt Christy. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Cornelius Christy.

Fred graduated from J.W. Cannon High School in 1950 and joined the US Coast Guard following. He was a friend of Bill W. and he retired from Piedmont Behavioral Health Care.

Those left to cherish Fred’s memory are his wife, Joan Newell Christy; sons, Fred Christy (Susan) and Danny Christy (Sandy); he was known as "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren, Andy Christy (Sarah) and Anna Norris (Jett); and great-grandchildren, Hampton, Emme and Tillery; sister, Mary Dwiggins (Bob); sister-in-law, Marilyn Spaulding; numerous nieces, nephews and a special niece, Angel Miller; and a host of other loving relatives and friends who will miss Fred.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
