Patsy Cunningham

June 26, 1951 — May 17, 2024

Mrs. Patsy Hilliard Cunningham, of Concord, passed away May 17, 2024 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

A celebration of life service will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, June 17th at First Baptist Church of Welcome, 404 Welcome-Arcadia Rd., Lexington, NC.

Patsy was born June 26, 1951 in Lexington to the late Nathan Godwin Hilliard and Fannie Elizabeth Hatley. She was an Emergency Room nurse at Thomasville Medical Center for 32 years while simultaneously working at Lexington Memorial Hospital for 28 years. Patsy was most proud of her roles as an advocate for victims of assault and as a cardiac rehab nurse.

Patsy was an amazing woman who truly loved spending time with family and friends. She had a wide range of interests including collecting gnomes, cross stitching, visiting the beach, reading George Patterson novels, and collecting David E. Doss paintings. Outside of family, her favorite thing was spending time with her dogs. They loved her as much as she loved them.

Patsy is survived by husband Thomas Cunningham; daughter Wendy Underwood of Welcome; son Erick Wray and wife Wanda of Durham; stepchildren Ashley Fischer and husband Michael of Kannapolis and Andrew Cunningham and wife Betsy of Concord; grandchildren Katelynn, Claire, Jada, Tanner, Kaydance, Ailish, and Will; great grandchildren Alice and Dottie; sister Ronda Gabard and husband Clayton of Lexington; nephew Steve Barrier and wife Amanda of Lexington; and a number of extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association, 128 S Tryon St #1588, Charlotte, NC 28202.
