Norma Jean Barringer Gamble, 85, of Concord, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 24th, 2021.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 1 pm at Oakwood Cemetery officiated by Rev. Randy Wall. The family will greet friends after the service at the cemetery.
Norma Jean’s life was marked by her remarkable enduring love and the unconditional devotion she showed to family, and to those fortunate people she met whom she made family. She had a quiet strength, and her gentleness, sweetness, and her intuitive ability to care for others made her beloved by all who knew her.
Norma Jean was born to James Daniel “Monk” Barringer and Daisy Naomi Faggart Barringer on October 6, 1935 in Cabarrus County. She graduated from Concord High School in 1954. Even in high school, her natural consideration for others showed in her choices of high school activities like Future Homemakers of America, where she was secretary. After high school, she attended Evans College and in January of 1956, Norma Jean married John William Gamble. They then had three children; Glenn Gamble and wife Tammy of Concord, Elaine Burris and husband Ray of Concord, and Donna Karlovich and husband John of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Her love for family was evident in how she made her home welcoming to all. Norma Jean found great joy in helping to raise and nurture her six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. For every generation, Norma Jean gave and gave, always selflessly, uncomplainingly, and with an obvious delight in the giving that was exceptional.
Her family would like to provide heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis staff for providing such wonderful care for Norma Jean and her husband over the last few years of their lives. The family was touched by how Norma Jean became a mama to many there.
Memorials may be made to Ann Street United Methodist Church, of which she was a faithful member, on 335 Ann Street in Concord, North Carolina 28025.
