Montez Brown Helton, 80, of Concord, NC, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends Thursday February 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Wilkinson Funeral Home with services following at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Roxane Almond of Boger's Chapel UMC will officiate.
Born Nov. 29, 1935 in Winston-Salem, she was the daughter of the late Della Carroll Brown McAdams and Porter Washington Brown. She married Buddy Helton on Dec. 15, 1951. She was a graduate of Concord High School and Evans Business College and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She worked for many years in the Cabarrus County Clerk of Courts office and retired from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she worked in Student Accounts. Montez enjoyed musicals, plays, shopping, dancing and going out with special girlfriends on Tuesdays.
Her 64-year union with the love of her life, Buddy, produced two children, Rebecca “Becky” Helton Lancaster Cawley, wife of R.J. Cawley of Concord and Steve Helton, husband of Anita Helton of Fancy Gap, Va;grandchildren, Jennifer Lancaster Ritchie and husband Todd, Melissa Lancaster Cooke and husband Daniel, Jason Helton and wife Anita, Taner Dalton and wife Terry, Garrett Helton, Jay Cawley, Shaun Cawley, Jeremy Cawley and wife, Shelly; great-grandchildren Chandler Dalton, Morgan Dalton, Emma Dalton, Adalyn Helton. Rae Cooke, Ella Cawley, McKenna Cawley, Isaac Cawley, Mae Cawley, Rylan Cawley, Taely Nelson, Janie Wright, Jaelyn Bell. In addition to her children and their offspring, she is survived by brothers, Dr. Paul Brown of Florida, Jack Brown of California and Jim Brown of Charlotte. She also had a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
