Minnie Lou McCorkle age 90 of Snellville, GA, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 14, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill David McCorkle; her parents, Franklin Stafford Goodman, Sr. and Emma Louise (King) Goodman; son, Franklin Merrill “Chip” McCorkle; and a brother, Franklin S. Goodman, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Faye L. McCorkle of Lilburn, GA; sisters, Winifred Hall and Lalla Faye Goodnight, both of Concord, NC; sister in law and brother in law, Rachel and Ben Overcash of Concord; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Concord, North Carolina native, she was a graduate of Odell School and Pheiffer College. She married Merrill David McCorkle, in November 1946, upon his return from service in World War II. She and Merrill were blessed with many life-long friends from the many places they lived. She will be missed by her numerous friends and especially by her beloved dog Ellie Mae. The family is extremely grateful for the care provided by the 5th floor North staff at Gwinnett Medical Center Lawrenceville, with special gratitude to Dr. Louis Heller, Peggy Lyden, Barbie Kozlowski, and Brandi Turner for their loving care and support.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, 3705 Highway 78 West, Snellville, GA. A service to celebrate Minnie Lou’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Cemetery, 6841 Poplar Tent Road, Concord, NC 28027. She will lie in state from 1-2:00 pm in the church fellowship hall prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in the Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
