Mr. Michael Allen Watkins, 68, of Midland, passed away tragically on Monday, March 25, 2024, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born on February 2, 1956, in Charlotte, to the late Onie Cooper Watkins and Dewey Allen Watkins. Mike was a proud graduate of Central Cabarrus High School, where he showcased his athletic prowess as the quarterback of the football team that secured the 1973 Rocky River Conference Championship. Following his high school years, Mike continued his education and football career at Gardner-Webb University, where he played football for four years. One of Mike's great legacies was his exceptional work ethic. He served as a master Welder/Pipe Fitter for C&C Boiler, where he poured his heart and soul into his craft, taking immense pride in his work. In 2004, Mike followed Christ in baptism at Coldwater Baptist Church, and he later was a member of Friendship Southern Baptist Church and Central Station-Cowboy Church.
Mike is survived by his children, Adriane W. Miley and husband, Nick of Locust, and Jesse Watkins and his wife, Tyler, of Midland, and their mother, Susan McLean Watkins of Locust. He is also survived by his brother, Patrick Watkins, and his wife, Michelle, of Concord, his sister, Vanessa Dumont, and her husband, Bob, of China Grove, as well as five grandchildren and his beloved dog and faithful companion, Buddy.
A funeral service to honor Mike's life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Friendship Southern Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jesse Watkins and Rev. Jeff Smith, with burial to follow at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
