Mrs. Marylyn McCaw Smith, 91, of Concord, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Broadus Baptist Church officiated by pastors Rodney Quesenberry and Sonny Reavis. The family will receive friends from 1-2 prior to the service.
Marylyn was born on August 31, 1928 in Marion, OH to the late James and Mary Jones McCaw. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Lewis E. Smith; sister Carolyn McCaw Wise, sons, Stephen Gfeller and Gary Gfeller.
Marylyn has had a love of music since a very young age, singing in the church choir since age 8 and currently a member of Epworth United Methodist Church choir. She also had been playing the violin for over 50 years and had appeared as “The Fiddler” in “Fiddler on the Roof” in community theater and played with many symphonies. Knitting & Crocheting were favorite pastimes. She made hundreds of blankets for hospitalized babies. She always tried to help family or the less fortunate.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Nicklas and husband Robin of WA, Pamela Adams and husband Doug of Concord, Patricia Hoffman and husband Jimmie of Concord; sisters, Evelyn Linville of OH and Colleen Patrick of PA; brother, Larry McCaw and wife Joette of OH; grandchildren, Annie, Beth, Drew, Judy, Amy, Josiah and Thomas;14 great-grandchildren; and many precious nieces and nephews and her beloved cat, Jenny.
