Mary Thompson

April 16, 1936 — March 19, 2016

Mrs. Mary Saunders Thompson , formerly of Ash Avenue NW, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Five Oaks Manor.

Her funeral will be 12:00 pm Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Kannapolis, officiated by Rev. George Morris. Burial will follow the service at West Concord Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 am at the church.

Mary was born April 16, 1936 in Huntington, WV to the late Stephen and Fern Davis Saunders. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Thompson. Mary was employed by the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department as a dietician and cook. She was a member of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing and tending to her garden. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Johnson and husband Brett of Charlotte; sons, Randy Thompson and wife Dianne, Rick Thompson and wife Lynn, all of Concord and Dwayne Thompson of Willowood, OH; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great- great grandchildren; brothers, Bill Saunders of Chicago, IL and Steve Saunders of Greenville, SC; sister, Anna Sellards of Huntington, WV and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to her church, Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, 509 West 22nd Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
