Mrs. Mary Maureen Downey McCann, age 80 passed away Friday January 8, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House with her children at her side.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Charles Donovan C.Ss.R. officiating.
Mrs. McCann was born July 17, 1935 in Shettleston Glasgow, Scotland. She was the daughter of the late Charles Downey and Annie Grant Conner Downey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry John McCann and siblings, Anna Toner, Frances Downey and Charles Downey.
Mary was a soccer coach while living in New York in her younger days. As a mom, she was very active with her daughter in Girl Scouts where she was a leader and later on, co-led with her daughter. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and was a member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church. The magnificent stories of her days growing up in Scotland will live on in the hearts of her children.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Anne Maureen Powers and husband, Danny of Concord; son, Jerome McCann and wife, Dawn of New York; grandson, Daniel Marmo and wife, Jackie; great-grandson, Maxwell John Marmo; sister, Margaret Philbin and husband, John of Scotland and numerous nieces and nephews.
