Mary Jewell Honeycutt

October 18, 1930 — September 15, 2018

Mrs. Mary Jewell Barbee Honeycutt, age 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 15, 2018 at CHS Northeast.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, September 19 at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 pm Thursday at Red Cross Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Gary Baker and Rev. Robert Howard. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the home of her son, Gary the remaining time.

Mrs. Honeycutt was born October 18, 1930 in Stanly County, a daughter of the late Eli and Lotha Huneycutt Barbee. She was also preceded in death by siblings, James Barbee, Ethel Hinson, Frank Barbee and Craven Barbee. Most importantly, waiting for her at heaven’s gates was her beloved husband, Rev. Marvin A. Honeycutt who passed away in January of this year.

Jewell retired from the former CB Drug Company. She enjoyed spending time working in her flower gardens and she and her husband met the needs of numerous feral felines. When Rev. Honeycutt got the call to the ministry, she was called to be a minister’s wife. Together, they served in many churches for over 50 years. Jewell truly lived up to her name and will be missed beyond measure.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Gary R. Honeycutt and wife, Gail; granddaughter, Karen Wade and husband, David and their children, Micah and Alana Wade; grandson, Brian Phillips and wife, Kim and their children, Kennedy, Katie and Nathan Phillips; granddaughter Ginger Mole and husband, Michael and their children, Dylan, Ryan and Owen Mole; sister, Shirley Burris and husband, Roy; brothers-in-law, AP Honeycutt and wife, Foy, RH Honeycutt and wife, Frances; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
