Mary Jane Cleaver Hartman, 77, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 following a sudden illness at Atrium Health NE in Concord North Carolina.
Mary Jane was born December 29, 1940 in Erie, PA to the late William and Helen Drexler Cleaver. Prior to moving to North Carolina, Mary Jane resided in Erie, PA and Toledo, OH.
Mrs. Hartman graduated from Villa Maria Academy, class of '58. She worked at Republic Water Heater Co. after graduation and prior to raising her children. She was also the manager at Dal Drum Studio, and a statistician and bookkeeper for Catholic Social Services.
Mary Jane enjoyed live music of all types, singing with the Toledo, Ohio Teutonia Chor, and the Erie Maennerchor Gesangverein. She was a member of Erie Elks Lodge 67 and a past Exalted Ruler of the Wauseon, Ohio Elks Lodge 1734. Mary Jane volunteered with the Fulton County, Ohio American Red Cross. She was a member of the Lake Shore Fire Department Auxiliary & the Grottoettes of Erepa Grotto. She was an avid reader and was never without her current book. She loved sports, especially college football.
She enjoyed participating in social functions and charity events with her husband at the Erie Elks, Zem Zem Shrine, Erepa Grotto, and Oasis Shriners of Charlotte, NC.
She is survived by Richard her husband of forty years; sons William Matczak and wife Dieu, Gary Matczak, Thomas Matczak and wife Carla; daughter, Jeanne Matczak Chichester and husband Steve; grandchildren Mariah, Sara, Rachel, Amy, Erika and Joseph.
The family invites friends to a celebration of Mary Jane's life at the Zem Zem Shrine Club, 2525 West 38th Street in Erie at 3 pm on Wednesday, June 27, until the time of a brief memorial service at 6:15 pm, followed immediately by a wake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to PA Elks Home Services, Shrine Hospital of Erie or Erepa Grotto Dentistry for Children with special needs.
