Marvin Augustus Honeycutt

October 22, 1929 — January 17, 2018

Rev. Marvin A. Honeycutt, age 88 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Red Cross Baptist Church, Oakboro, with a funeral service to follow at 2pm. Pastors, Robert Howard and Gary Baker will officiate. Rev. Honeycutt will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

Rev. Honeycutt was born October 22, 1929 in Cabarrus County, one of 14 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Hugh Honeycutt and Mamie Furr Honeycutt, along with siblings, Coy, John, Reece, Bruce, Floyd, Hugh, Zula, Lois, Letha, James and Clifford.

Rev. Honeycutt was working in construction, building homes in Stanly and Cabarrus counties, when he was called to the ministry. For the next 50 years, he served as pastor to many churches with his first church being Antioch Baptist in Badin. He also pastored at Bethlehem Baptist in Concord, Plyler Baptist in Albemarle and he retired in 1991 at Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church in Richfield. Rev. Honeycutt served as interim to several churches in Wilkes, Iredell and Stanly counties. He enjoyed playing golf, growing vegetables and sharing his bounty with family, friends and folks in the nursing homes. He also loved taking care of their numerous cats. Rev. Honeycutt and his wife were members of Miami Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving and faithful wife, Jewell Barbee Honeycutt; son, Gary Honeycutt and wife, Gail of Concord; granddaughter, Karen Wade and husband, David and their children, Micah and Alana Wade; grandson, Brian Phillips and his children, Kennedy, Katie and Nathan Phillips; granddaughter, Ginger Phillips Mole and her husband, Michael and their children, Dylan, Ryan, and Owen Mole and Esther Garcia; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

A special thank you to the staff at Tucker Hospice House for the love and care shown to Rev. Honeycutt and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081, Miami Baptist Church, 6701 Miami Church Road, Concord, NC 28025 or to Red Cross Baptist Church, 112 W Red Cross Road, Oakboro, NC 28129.
