With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mrs. Martha Jane Stough Safrit, 79, of Harrisburg, who left us on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Broadus Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Rodney Quesenberry, with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park-Harrisburg. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service.
Born on March 16, 1945, in Cabarrus County, Martha was the beloved daughter of the late Glenna Brown Stough and Lonnie Stough.
A dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Meredith "Bub" Ray Safrit, and stepdaughter, Janet Safrit Helms.
Martha graduated from Concord High School and King Business College, thereafter, embarking on a long career with Travelers Insurance. Beyond her professional life, Martha found immense joy in gardening, tending to her vegetable garden, and spending time with her cherished flowers. Fishing trips with her beloved husband, Bub, were among her favorite pastimes, creating memories filled with love and laughter.
Martha's love for her family was unparalleled. She adored her two granddaughters, Erica and Kelly Dunlap, and delighted in spoiling them with her famous Chicken and Dumplings and Taco Bake Casserole, dishes that were beloved by all who tasted them.
Martha is survived by her devoted daughter, Renay Dunlap, and her husband, Everette; sister, Edith Hundley; brothers, Brown Stough and Glenn Stough; her cherished granddaughters, Erica and Kelly Dunlap; and step-grandson, Devin Andrew Helms.

Martha's legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will forever be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and eternally cherished.
