Mr. Marshall “Gene” Morris, 89, of Concord, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Monday, March 7, 2022 at McGill Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Steve Ayers, with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Gene was born on June 24, 1932 in Concord to the late Ella Neal Alexander Morris and Arthur McBride Morris. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Helen Morris.
Gene was a graduate from Concord High School and then went on to graduate from Pfeifer College with a BS in Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 then was Honorable Discharged. Gene worked as the Manager of the Concord Social Security Office for 30 years from 1971-1990 then honorably served as Clerk of Superior Court for Cabarrus County from 1994-2006.
He was a board member of many different organization in the Concord area: Piedmont Area Mental Health-6-year Board Member, President 1992-1994, Volunteer of the Year 1989, Cabarrus Workshop, Inc.-6-year Board Member, 1-year Treasurer, NC Associated of Retarded Citizens-6-year Board Member, Old Courthouse Theater-4-year Board Member, VP 1992-1994, Cabarrus County Association of Retarded Citizens- 7-year Board Member, President 3 years, Treasurer 3 years, Volunteer of the Year 1988, Interagency Council of Cabarrus County, Inc.-12-Year Member, 12-year President, Former 6-year Member of Kannapolis Rotary Club, Secretary 1-year, Senior Center Advisory Board, Member 1993-1996, President 1995.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances Gadd Morris; daughter, Susan MacIntosh and husband, Alec; son, Bill Morris and wife, Tracie; sister Phyllis Morris Gaylan; brother, Randy McBride Morris; granddaughter, Lea Morris.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Gene’s caregivers, Carrie Ann, Beverly, and Donovan for their love and support over the past few months.
