Marie Lang Acquaviva

January 3, 1937 — August 31, 2024

Mrs. Marie Lang Acquaviva, 87, of Concord, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Atrium Health Cabarrus. Her life was a rich tapestry of love, art, friends, family and she will be dearly missed by all who loved her unique spirit.

A memorial mass to celebrate Marie’s life will be held at 1:30 on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at St. James “The Greater” Catholic Church, with Father Dau officiating. Following the service, the family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a reception at 3:00 pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home.

Marie was born on January 3, 1937, in Irvington, New Jersey, to the late Ruth Lambe Lang and John Lang, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard Acquaviva, and her brother, Vincent Lang.
Marie was a woman of many talents and passions. In 1985, she proudly graduated from Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) in Charlotte, where she discovered her love for teaching. For over 25 years, she shared her artistic talents with countless students as an art instructor at CPCC. Even after her retirement, Marie continued to inspire others by teaching art classes at the Cabarrus County Senior Center and The Gardens of Taylor Glen. Her dedication to nurturing creativity in others was a true testament to her generous spirit.

A faithful member of St. James Catholic Church, Marie led her life as a dedicated, loyal Catholic. Beyond her devotion to her faith, Marie was also a lifelong athlete who considered herself a “jock.” Her active lifestyle was a source of joy and fulfillment throughout her life.

Marie is survived by her loving children, Kenneth Vincent Acquaviva of Long Beach, CA, Janice Marie Acquaviva, Patricia “Patty” A. Propst and her husband, Steve, of Concord. She also leaves behind her dear siblings, John Lang and his wife Marge, Betty Thomas, Theodore Lang and his wife Valerie, and Richard “Ritchie” Lang and his wife, Barbara. Marie was a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren, Nathann Acquaviva, Zachariah Acquaviva, Joshua Brown, Jessica Jordan and her husband, Michael, Gabrielle McKee, Kenneth Acquaviva Jr and his wife Callie and Nicole Sniatecki and her husband Brian. Her legacy of love continues through her great-grandchildren, Asher Acquaviva, Atticus Acquaviva, Leo Acquaviva, and Lucas Acquaviva.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. James Catholic Church, 139 Manor Ave SW, Concord, NC 28025, or to Atrium Health Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute, 100 Medical Park Drive SE #210, Concord, NC 28025.

The family would like to thank Atrium Health Cabarrus, nurses, Dr.’s and medical angel staff for their care and support of Marie.

Marie’s life was a shining example of compassion, creativity, and dedication to others. Her warmth and kindness will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace, reunited with those she loved.
