Margaret Igel passed peacefully on October 25, 2016 in Charlotte, NC.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: John, Edwin, and Charles; and her parents: John and Genevieve Rutten. She is survived by one daughter (Andrea Redding), three sons (Jeffrey Igel, Brian Igel, and David Igel), and 7 grandchildren.
Margaret was born on January 24, 1934, in Cedar Rapids Nebraska, the daughter of John and Genevieve Kleve Rutten. After receiving her nursing degree from Creighton University School of Nursing in 1955 (picture), she married Dr. Howard J. Igel on October 31, 1959. They moved to various locations as job opportunities presented themselves before finally settling in Akron, OH.
During her nearly 30 years in Akron, she tirelessly volunteered her time at her childrens’ schools and other organizations. She was particularly fulfilled by her humble service to the Catholic church: serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Parish Nurse, and as a frequent volunteer at Saint Hilary Parish. Margaret also volunteered her sewing, knitting, and fundraising skills for the Catholic Service League; and served on the parish Council of Catholic Women. After taking time to raise a family, she regained her nursing license, and was employed by Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital until her retirement.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at St. Hilary Church, Fairlawn, OH. Visitation will be at the church before the Funeral Mass from 9 am until 10 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Catholic Service League of Summit County, 812 Biruta Street, Akron OH 44307.
