Loretta was born in Yadkin County where she was raised, to the late Harold Vernon Welborn and Dorothy Anderson Welborn. She was a graduate of Starmount High School in 1971 and received her BA from UNC-Asheville in 1975. She supported her husband, Robert, in pursuit of his law degree while working at the law library at the University of Dayton Ohio. After they returned to Asheville, she worked for the Buncombe County Department of Social Services and later for Cabarrus County after they moved to Concord in 1990. She retired after serving as the manager of Camilla Hill Apartments for the elderly for 10 years. Her favorite job, however, came in retirement as full-time babysitter for her pride and joy, her grandsons. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church since 1992. Loretta enjoyed the greenery from her house plants and bird watching at her many bird feeders.
Loretta was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by husband of 49 years, Robert E. Cansler; daughter, Rebecca “Becca” C. Hunter and husband, Robert of Concord; grandsons, Mason and Noah Hunter; sister, Deborah “Debbie” Welborn of Jonesville, NC; and many extended family members.
The family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at Accordius of Concord and Hospice of Cabarrus County for their help and care.
Memorials may be made to the Levine Cancer Institute Advancement Fund, 208 East Blvd.
