Mr. L. Stephen Guyton III passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center following a brief illness.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday June 1st, at Forest Hill United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Wes Judy. The family will receive family and friends beginning at 12:00 PM at the church.
Stephen was born September 9, 1949 in Florence, SC to the late Lonnie S. Guyton, Jr. and Mattie Stafford Guyton.
Stephen attended the Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida where he developed his talent for painting. He was a talented artist whose work is displayed in galleries and private collections in the US and overseas. He also used his artistic skills for the betterment of others. His philanthropic activities included designing the Florence County Law Enforcement badge and illustrating the Amtrak Safety Booklet. He volunteered and created the Florence County Christmas ornament program benefiting the Pee Dee Regional Disabilities Regional Center and served on the Board of Palmetto First Credit Union as well as Library programs and organizations.
He also taught art at various venues like Frances Marion University and the Florence library.
Stephen loved traveling and over the past several years was able to visit countries in Europe as well as China and South Africa. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Kepley Shuping, son Dennis H Guyton of Oneida, TN, brother Phillip L Guyton of Florence, SC, sister Linda G Sulejman of Columbia, SC, and a number of extended family members.
