Mrs. Lois Carpenter Widenhouse passed away surrounded by her family, Saturday, January 4, 2020.
Her funeral will be 11 AM Wednesday at Forest Hill United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Mandy Jones and Rev. Suzanne Dornsmith. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 AM Wednesday at the church.
Lois was born June 6, 1923 in Concord to the late Hiram and Jennie Partlow Carpenter. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Phil Weldon Widenhouse, Sr. in 2003, son Phil W. Widenhouse, Jr, in 1998, and by six brothers and sisters.
Lois was a bookkeeper early in her career, but most of her adult life was a homemaker. She loved her husband and children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with a passion. Children were always a central part of her life. She loved to prepare meals for her large family and for her friends. Lois was a member of Forest Hill UMC. Her greatest strength in life was that she was a true example of Christ and His love for all. Lois was a past President of the UMC Women and recipient of the “Woman of the Year” award in 1990, a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was also a former Cub Scout Den mother, and a recipient of the Rotarian Paul P. Harris Award. Lois supported many community organizations.
Lois is survived by her children, Jan W. Odell (Walter), Peggy W. Carlough (Mark), Anne W. Niblock (William), Connie W. Bertolette (Barry), and Charles “Chuck” M. Widenhouse (Sue); daughter-in-law, Shelley Williamson; grandchildren, Laura O. Howie (John), Clifton Odell (Alesha), Daniel Carlough (Jill), Kevin Carlough (Aleisha), Thomas Niblock (Deaven), Ginny N. Moore (Jeff), Rebekah Niblock (Felipe Saenz), Paxton Widenhouse (Emma), and David Niblock; and seven great grandchildren with two arriving in the next months; and a number of extended family members.
A special thanks for the exceptional care go to the staff of Morningside of Concord for the last six years, and to her loving team of caregivers from Home Instead, and also from Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.
