Lyn was born on May 10, 1960, in Concord, NC to Joan Bennett McEachern and L.B. “Buddy” McEachern, Jr.
During his youth, Lyn was quite active and involved in various organizations and programs participating in sports, summer programs, and community service. His outstanding sportsmanship and character did not go unnoticed as he was recognized by the Cabarrus County Boys Club as the first recipient of The Boyce Sherrin Award. While a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Central NC Council, Troop #264, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Lyn also enjoyed the time he spent as a youth at St. James Lutheran Church. He was an active member of the Youth Group where he was chosen by his peers to lead.
Lyn attended Concord High School and was a proud CHS Spider. He excelled as an athlete and participated in football, golf, and wrestling. In addition, he participated in various clubs including The Key Club and the Science Club. As active and involved as Lyn was in school, his greatest joy came from the many friendships he developed. He was forever a proud graduate of the Class of 1978. As a recipient of the Cabarrus County Boys Club Scholarship, he continued his education at Tusculum College in Tusculum, Tennessee.
After returning home, Lyn served the organization that held great significance to him during his childhood and adolescence, the Cabarrus County Boys and Girls Club. He was a (past) Board of Director and a Member of the Corporation. He was a former member of the Concord Jaycees and held the position of treasurer. As a hobby, Lyn enjoyed flying and successfully obtained his private pilot’s license in 1985.
Lyn began work at an early age and dedicated many years to his father at The Ice and Fuel Company in Concord. After stepping away from the family business, Lyn explored other opportunities and was a successful sales broker in the trucking and freight industry. Most recently, Lyn found himself back in the place that he loved the most, alongside his father, at McEachern Rental Company. Lyn’s vision, and work ethic, along with his gentle and kind spirit will forever be greatly missed.
He is survived by his parents, Joan Bennett McEachern and L.B. “Buddy” McEachern. Jr.; children, son, L.B. IV (Erica) McEachern, daughter, Madie (Matt) Lopane; sister, Jennifer McEachern Ritchie and her husband Jack, grandchildren; Phoebe and Abram McEachern, Franklin and Liliana Lopane, nephews; Ben, Mac, and George Ritchie.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for Lyn's time spent in California and the many friends that became like family to him. Additionally, they express their gratitude to the ICU nurses and providers at Atrium Cabarrus for the excellent care they provided during Lyn's brief illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County, Post Office Box 1405, Concord, NC 28026; St. James Lutheran Church, Post Office Box 684, Concord, NC 28026, or to one’s charity of choice.
