Leon Long

January 14, 1947 — August 10, 2023

Mr. Leon Aurthur Long, 76, of Concord, left this world on Thursday, August 10, 2023, in the embrace of his home and surrounded by his beloved family. His passing leaves a void that will forever be felt by those whose lives he touched.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Leon's life will take place at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Enochville. Reverend Chris Daniel will officiate the service. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, providing an opportunity for those who knew Leon to offer their condolences and support.

Born on January 14, 1947, in Dade County, FL, Leon was the cherished son of the late Minnie Smith Long and John William Long. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Vicky Joanne Wilkinson Long.

Leon's entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a long-time owner/operator of a successful lawn care business. Music held a special place in his heart, and he had a particular fondness for singing old gospel and country songs. He found joy in his travels, often embarking on journeys to the beach and the mountains alongside his beloved wife. Leon's devotion to family was paramount, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His infectious sense of humor brought smiles to the faces of everyone around him, and his laughter echoed in the hearts of those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Amy L. Daniel, and her husband, Chris, of Kannapolis, and his son, Mark L. Long, along with his girlfriend, Michele Hayes, of Concord. Leon is also survived by his sister, Jane Wood, and her husband, Gary, of Kannapolis, his granddaughter, Megan V. Windham, and her husband, Will, of Harrisburg. Additionally, he leaves behind his aunt, Ina Sheffield, his great-grandson, Kendric Windham, great-granddaughter, Isabella Windham, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County, located at 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. These contributions will honor Leon's memory and support the compassionate work of hospice care.

Mr. Leon Aurthur Long will be remembered for his dedication to family, his love for music, and his ability to bring joy to every moment. May his spirit find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who hold him dear.
