Laverna Smith

July 11, 1957 — July 29, 2024

CONCORD- LaVerna Ledbetter Smith, 67, Passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2024 at her home in Myrtle Beach.

A 3:30pm graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 4, at Carolina Memorial Park with Rev. Ronnie W. Parker officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery following the service.

LaVerna was born in Cabarrus County on July 11, 1957 at 2:48pm. She was a 1975 graduate of Central Cabarrus High School and went on to UNC-Charlotte where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Nursing. She later returned to UNCC and earned two Masters Degrees. LaVerna spent her hospital career at Carolinas Medical Center- Main. She worked on the Dixon Heart Floor as a cardiac nurse before becoming Director of Case Management for the hospital. She loved cats. LaVerna loved muscle cars with her favorite being a black Camero. She listened to heavy metal music. Her favorite color was black. Glitter and sparkles made it even better. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry L. Ledbetter and sister, Debrah “Cookie” Gatter.

LaVerna is survived by her daughter, Candi Threatt of Charlotte; son, David L. Threatt of Ponte Vedra, Fl; mother, Jan Wagner Hall of Concord; sister Susan Bennick (Keith) of Matthews; and grandchildren, Cody Caton, and Emmy, Graham, and Henry Threatt.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Princetons Meow, 29 Brookwood Avenue NE, Concord, NC 28025.
